Biography

Darren, currently residing in South Yorkshire, England, has been a fan of science fiction and fantasy for as long as he can remember. His great ambition from an early age was always first and foremost to write for the genre, and in particular stories for Doctor Who: A show that from the very first episode he sat down to watch, had a special affection for*

*(In public, he says it was ‘City of Death’ that first caused him to hide behind the sofa, but get him drunk on a good night and he’ll reveal it was actually ‘Creature from the Pit’. Bless.)

His first ever story at the age of eight featured the 5th Doctor, the Cybermen and took place in a surrounding that was perhaps a little too similar to Star Wars’ Mos eisley cantina. He moved on, however, gaining small amounts of work that eventually allowed him to contribute and later to edit local superhero comic book fanzines ‘Action Packed’ and later ‘midnight’s winter’. However, it was Darren’s passion for Doctor Who that spurred him to continue writing.

Over the years, Darren has had several short stories featured in various Who-related publications, but it wasn’t until early 2004 when Darren was asked to submit to the ‘Short Trips: Christmas Treasury’ anthology. Among several submissions was the story ‘Never Seen Cairo’, this was accepted at the time by editor Paul Cornell and made it into the final published book, closely followed by the story ‘Utopia’ in the anthology ‘Farewells' just a year later.

Since then, Darren has continued with his writing career and is currently hard at work on several projects, the details of which will appear shortly.
